About Us

LMS Events is about 100% pure New Zealand Adventure.

We are an events company operating out of beautiful Wanaka, on the door step of the Mt Aspiring National Park and Southern Alps.

Our motivation, in developing these events, comes from creating opportunity for people to challenge themselves, set goals and feel the success of their achievement. This positive and motivated energy is good for everyone.

We focus on delivering an experiance, not just a race or event. We are proud to present Wanaka and show case its outstanding natural landscape. Through these events we bring good people and good business to the wider Wanaka community.

Danielle Nicholson, the Director of LMS Events is a a mother of two young children and speads her time between teaching, running LMS Events and keeping up with all of her sporting husbands grand ideas!

She has the assistance of many talented and motivated Wanaka athletes and other professionals who assist her with these endeavours.

LMS Events has two main races, a 6 stage multisport event, the Mountain 2 Mountain-Wanaka's Iconic Multisport Event and a 125km Mountain Biking event around Lake Hawea in Wanaka, Contact Epic-NZ's Ultimate Mountain Biking Event.

Details on these two events are summarized below.

The Contact Epic:

Your ultimate Mountain Bike challenge for endurance athletes and people with a sense of adventure.

The Contact Epic is about the challenge of circumnavigating the shores of Lake Hawea which is located on the edge of Wanaka in the South Island of New Zealand. The ride is a 125 km journey of discovery about the land, about your bike and about yourself.

It is a once a year opportunity to be part of a race and a great day out riding through the Hunter Valley and Dingle Burn high country farming stations of Lake Hawea. This is only achieved through special permission from the land owners. The course is undulating and varied with river and stream crossings, lots of short climbs and long descents. There is also a 95km option for those not ready to take on the whole lake.... this time.

This event started in 2008 with over 600 entrants and is an annual event on ANZAC weekend in April each year. The race is timed towards the end of the season when people have been active in other, shorter mountain biking events over the summer and feel confident to take on this challenge.

The Contact Epic is the country’s longest circumnavigation of a lake and is the mountain biker's equivalent of the around Lake Taupo road biking challenge. However, this is more of an adventure than a race. Those that are super fit and want to race hard will be tested over this terrain. Those who see this as a major personal challenge will be able to pace themselves and enjoy the history, scenery and wilderness of this remote area.

The course is not be littered with signage and support people, it is left as untouched as possible to allow you to enjoy this environment in its natural state. With this comes some personal responsibility, which is a big part of the event ethos. We are taking the bubble-wrapping away and letting you take on this event knowing that you will need motivation, common sense and tenacity to get to the finish line.

We believe that when good people are actively engaged in considering and planning their own adventure and safety, they will make the best decisions to suit their own circumstances and ability.

To that end there will be no official bike checks, no compulsory gear list, no cotton wool and no excuses, just you taking on this challenge on your own terms.

Good Luck.

Mountain 2 Mountain:

6 stage Multisport Event, Lake Wanaka, NZ.

The Wanaka M2M has been running since 2001 and is an Iconic Wanaka event. It consists of a 6 stage Multisport race taking competitors on a journey through some of the best scenery and terrain Wanaka has to offer.

This event is for teams and individuals who Ski, Run, Mountain bike, Kayak and Road bike from the Treble Cone Ski field to the Snow Park in Cardrona Valley.

Whether you want a big day out as an individual or a fun but challenging team event, then come and see what all the talk is about, you will not be disappointed.

The Mountain 2 Mountain multi-sport event is held in September each year. The current directors took over the race in 2004 and it now has a dedicated following. From 2003 with 30 individuals and teams (2 – 6 people), we have now reached entries of 75 individuals and teams which involve around 300 competitors.

The race begins with a significant ski leg down Treble Cone ski field; MTB down the 8km ski field access road and a further 8km up the mighty Matukituki Valley; kayak down the Matukituki River; 10km off-road run through private land with stunning scenery to Glendhu Bay; 35km road ride up the Cardrona Valley to the base of the Snow Park access road; 13km up-hill bike ride to the Snow Park where the finish and prize giving is held right beside the Park.

The event attracts top level athletes, recreational and beginners alike, who challenge themselves over the whole distance or in sections as teams of between 2 and 6 people. Our competitors come from Central Otago and as far as Southland, Dunedin and Christchurch. We also have a category for school teams in order to encourage junior athletes to ‘take on the outdoors’ in a fun and safe environment.

Competitors comments:

Competitors, crew and spectators are treated to an excellent day's racing with a no compromise attitude to safety and efficient organisation.

A "must do" on every racer's event calendar.

Dr Andrew McLeod

As a competitor earlier this year I had a ball.  With so many different elements it attracted a wide range of people who like to challenge themselves.  The event was organised extremely well and ran very smoothly.  The prize giving was one of the best I have ever attended and retained a strong local community feel.

Ed Taylor

One of the best organised multisport events I've entered.

Richard Ussher

Out of all the events I do, if I only had one race a year to do, this would be it.
